“Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
― George Bernard Shaw
When one is close minded, it creates a perpetual cycle of denial, ignorance, and even bigotry. While no one can say they are truly one hundred percent open minded, it is essential to human progress to not have a society of close minded individuals. While having a closed mind can be something as simple as only liking certain types of food, music, art, sports, etc, when it is taken to a higher degree, it is what leads to organizations such as hate groups, or anything else whose existence is centered around the degradation or exclusion of others. While having specific personal preferences about the things one wants to surround themselves by is not such a bad thing, but it is when it relies about the interactions with those having no desire to be involved or interacted with on such an issue. One must always be able to stand by their morals, but not to the degree where one totally shuts out the existence or possibility of outside beliefs. If humankind wants to progress, it must let go of the close mindedness that leads to sexism, racism, homophobia, etc.
