“Self-Absorption” used in context

I have a couple of you who seemed stalled on the prompt writing about “self-absorption”. As any investigative journalist would do, read the defintion from several different sources. Then look at the word as it is used in text. Who is self absorbed? Do you know anyone? Are you? Why do people think our sports heroes, our movie stars, our music icons even Americans in general are self absorbed? Then give me your reactions and thoughts and you are off and blogging. Please review the tips for writing ( see writing tips on this page and in your text on blogging)

“She was no longer the listless creature who had lived at his side in a state of sullen self-absorption, but a mysterious alien presence, an evil energy secreted from the long years of silent brooding.”
Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton

“He heard a laugh, and it not only interrupted his words but also destroyed the peace of his self-absorption with the vile pain of a reality intruding upon the beauty of a dream.”
Tales of Unrest by Joseph Conrad
